Why I Started My Blog

My blog was a wedding present from my husband Gabe. I had long talked to him about starting one, but without him gifting me the domain and setting everything up for me, I doubt I would have gone through with it.

I’ve always liked writing. I excelled at it in school, where there is a distinct lack of the kind of writing everyone wants to read: personal writing.

Academic writing came easily to me, but it was exhausting. I could write a great research paper or lab report any day of the week. The problem was that academic writing wasn’t something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

If I had pursued a career in psychology, I would have been stuck both doing research and writing these kinds of reports. I can’t express how glad I am that I left school and started a family instead, but that’s a post for another time.

The reason I started my blog was so I could write. It’s a good outlet, and writing a blog post is similar to an assignment for college, except that I actually enjoy it. I need to create. My husband was the first person to help teach me that humans are meant to create.

It’s not the same for everyone, either. For some it’s video, others audio, still others writing. And of course there are so many more forms of creation out there! I never really got into the more traditional forms or art, like painting or drawing.

It took me a very long time to realize that writing is an art, too.

I also started my blog to express myself, and vent if I feel the need (see Nursing Bras Suck (And So Do Other Bras) for an example). It’s nice to have a little space carved out on the internet that is mine to design.

If you enjoy reading my rambling, rants, and updates, stick around!
